Sevenfold Verse:Ode to the Establishment of the Shandong Clan Association of the Yu Family in China

By Mu Feng

The Shun Well unveils its veil to greet emerald woods,

A hundred springs from sacred source sing pure and clear.

Lotus breeze surrounds Bright Lake beneath the moon’s gaze,

Willows’ timeless hue retains Snow-String’s ancient rhyme.

Ancestral grace flows far into the Bohai Sea,

Clan branches flourish high where misty cliffs arise.

Where embers pass the torch from age to age with care,

Grace notes of Shao still linger ’neath apricot shade.

Note 1: This poem weaves through the cultural tapestry of the Yu clan in Shandong. “The Shun Well unveils its veil” alludes to the clan’s ancestral roots, while “a hundred springs from sacred source” symbolizes the enduring lineage. Imagery of Bright Lake, Baotu Spring, and the Bohai Sea reflects the historical and geographical context. “Embers pass the torch” and “grace notes of Shao beneath apricot shade” echo the legendary music of Emperor Shun, conveying the clan’s aspirations.

Note 2: The poem follows the pattern in the Pingshui Rhyme scheme (Rhyme Group 12 Qing).
