In today’s era where the tide of globalization and digital technology have profoundly reshaped the cultural landscape, how to realize the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture has become a core proposition entrusted to us by the times. This is not a simple superposition of the two skills of poetry and calligraphy, but rooted in the core of traditional Chinese culture that "literature conveys the Dao" and "art connects the heart", pursuing the perfect unity of content and form, spiritual nature and craftsmanship, which is precisely the contemporary continuation of the ancient saying that "poetry is the voice of the heart, and calligraphy is the painting of the heart".

 

其诗作自觉接续唐人风骨,在杜甫的沉郁纪实与李白的瑰丽想象间寻得精妙平衡,多篇原创诗作如《锦绣开州》《滨湖人家》《对影亭》等斩获全国金奖,尽显“重现唐诗风骨”的艺术特质,正应“览诗追李杜,笔含浩气”之誉。无论是描绘家乡风物的“一城山色半城湖”《军神故乡》,还是礼赞自然奇观的“龙挟惊雷百丈潜”《黄果树瀑布》,亦或是“云漫青山阁宇红,晴岚倒影镜湖中”的空灵之境,皆格律严谨、意象清新。在古典形式中注入现代人对家园与自然的深情,既得王孟诗派之清空,又纳李杜之雄健,避免了当代旧体诗创作常有的空洞与僵化。其中“恍入蓬莱第一峰”等佳句,更以画龙点睛之笔将实景描绘升华为超验境界,构建出可供精神栖居的灵山圣境。

His poems consciously inherit the spirit of the Tang poets, striking an exquisite balance between Du Fu’s profound realism and Li Bai’s magnificent imagination. Many of his original works, such as Splendid Kaizhou, Lakeside Family and Pavilion of Mutual Reflection, have won national gold awards, fully demonstrating the artistic feature of "reproducing the spirit of Tang poetry" and justifying the praise that "reading his poems makes one follow Li Bai and Du Fu, and his brush strokes contain noble spirit". Whether it is the description of hometown scenery in "A city embraced by mountains and half surrounded by lakes" from Hometown of the Military God, the eulogy of natural wonders in "A dragon carries thunder and dives a hundred zhang deep" from Huangguoshu Waterfall, or the ethereal realm depicted in "Clouds shroud green mountains and red pavilions; clear mist reflects in the mirror-like lake", all his poems are rigorous in metrical rules and fresh in imagery. Injecting modern people’s deep affection for homeland and nature into classical forms, his poems not only capture the tranquility and clarity of the poetic school of Wang Wei and Meng Haoran but also embrace the grandeur and vigor of Li Bai and Du Fu, avoiding the emptiness and rigidity common in contemporary classical poetry creation. Among them, exquisite lines like "As if entering the first peak of Penglai" elevate the depiction of real scenery to a transcendental realm with a finishing touch, constructing a sacred mountain sanctuary for spiritual habitation.

 

细品其代表作《黄果树瀑布》:“龙挟惊雷百丈潜,银珠飞迸任君拈。若非织女裁云幕,定是天宫晒玉帘。”全诗以四组动态意象立体呈现瀑布奇观——“龙挟惊雷”写气势,“银珠飞迸”抓细节,“裁云幕”“晒玉帘”喻形态,如电影运镜般精准捕捉瀑布的不同侧面,与李白《望庐山瀑布》形成跨越千年的精神唱和,恰合“常与盛唐对话巅”的创作境界。诗中巧妙化用“织女”意象,既延续了古典神话的文化基因,又以“飞迸”“任君拈”等词语注入现代视角的灵动,通感修辞的运用更让视觉冲击转化为可触可感的审美体验,与李白“飞湍瀑流争喧豗”的声景构建异曲同工。另一首《滨湖人家》:“风雨廊桥染碧烟,天堂画卷展窗前。鹭鸥飞舞朝阳下,灯映兰舟梦里边。”则以白描手法勾勒出江南水乡般的静谧图景,“染”“展”“飞”“映”四字炼字精妙,将廊桥、碧烟、鹭鸥、兰舟等意象串联成流动的画面,字里行间满是对家园的眷恋,尽显文人“天人合一”的生命情怀。

A close reading of his representative work Huangguoshu Waterfall: "A dragon carries thunder and dives a hundred zhang deep; silver pearls burst forth for anyone to pick. If it were not the Weaver Girl cutting clouds into a curtain, it must be the Heavenly Palace hanging a jade screen to dry." The poem three-dimensionally presents the wonder of the waterfall through four groups of dynamic images—"a dragon carries thunder" depicts its momentum, "silver pearls burst forth" captures its details, and "cutting cloud curtains" and "drying jade screens" metaphorize its form. It accurately captures different facets of the waterfall like a film camera, forming a spiritual dialogue across a thousand years with Li Bai’s Watching the Lushan Waterfall, perfectly embodying the creative realm of "constantly conversing with the pinnacle of the High Tang Dynasty". The poem skillfully adapts the image of the "Weaver Girl", inheriting the cultural genes of classical mythology while injecting the vividness of modern perspective through words like "burst forth" and "for anyone to pick". The use of synaesthesia transforms visual impact into a tangible aesthetic experience, which is equally effective as the soundscape construction in Li Bai’s line "Turbulent cascades and torrents roar in chaos". Another poem Lakeside Family: "The wind-and-rain covered bridge is dyed in green mist; a paradise-like scroll unfolds before the window. Herons and gulls dance under the morning sun; lanterns reflect the orchid boat in dreams." It sketches a tranquil scene like a Jiangnan water town with a simple line-drawing technique. The four carefully chosen verbs "dyed", "unfolded", "danced" and "reflected" are exquisitely refined, connecting images such as the covered bridge, green mist, herons, gulls and orchid boat into a flowing picture. The lines are filled with nostalgia for homeland, fully demonstrating the literati’s life sentiment of "harmony between heaven and humanity".

 

其书法尤以行草见长,取法传统而“遵古不泥古”,在2019年度全国知名书画家艺术大赛和全国“兰亭杯”书法比赛中均斩获第一名,实力备受业界认可,恰契“书宗汉魏,墨涌狂澜”的艺术追求。笔墨间既有对“王风赵骨”的深刻领会,又能融会贯通形成鲜明个人面貌,线条流畅而内力充盈,被评论家赞为“起笔惊天、行笔撼地、收笔巧妙”。在纸上营造出风云跌宕的磅礴气势,其“龙凤呈祥”书法作品获专业大赛金奖,笔势如“神马腾空”,墨韵似“浪涛漫卷”,正是“龙凤呈祥,诗书双绝”的生动写照,堪称“诗书泼墨惊天地,狂草一挥镇八荒”。

Learning from tradition yet "upholding the ancients without being constrained by them", he won the first prize in both the 2019 National Famous Calligraphers and Painters Art Competition and the National "Lanting Cup" Calligraphy Competition, with his strength widely recognized by the industry, which perfectly matches his artistic pursuit of "modeling calligraphy after the Han and Wei dynasties, with ink surging like turbulent waves". His brushwork not only shows a profound understanding of "the grace of Wang Xizhi and the strength of Zhao Mengfu" but also integrates these influences to form a distinct personal style. His lines are smooth yet full of inner strength, praised by critics as "starting strokes shake the sky, moving strokes stir the earth, and closing strokes are ingenious". He creates a majestic momentum of swirling winds and clouds on paper. His calligraphy work Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity won the gold award in a professional competition, with brush momentum like "a divine steed soaring into the sky" and ink charm like "turbulent waves rolling in". It is a vivid portrayal of "dragon and phoenix bringing prosperity, excellence in both poetry and calligraphy", worthy of the acclaim that "splashing ink in poetry and calligraphy astonishes heaven and earth; a single stroke of wild cursive dominates the eight wildernesses".

 

“诗书双绝”的本质,是谭周文作为当代文人的完整性自我锤炼。诗言其志,书传其神,二者互为表里,共同构筑起饱满自足的精神世界。这种追求,使其与王羲之、苏轼、黄庭坚等“诗人书法家”的伟大传统遥相呼应,作品也因此被赋予超越单纯视觉美学的文化品格与生命温度。

Poetry expresses his aspirations, and calligraphy conveys his spirit; the two are exterior and interior to each other, jointly constructing a rich and self-sufficient spiritual world. On the basis of deeply rooting himself in tradition, Tan Zhouwen’s most original contribution lies in establishing and practicing throughout his life the creative paradigm of "writing one’s own poems in one’s own calligraphy". The seemingly "self-imposed restriction" of insisting on writing his own poems is actually an active resistance to "hollow content" and "form plagiarism" in the art field, and more importantly, a contemporary reconstruction of the essence of the traditional literati concept that "poetry and painting share the same origin". His works of "writing my own poems in my own calligraphy" were selected into the limited edition of the National Name Card Precious Stamp Collection by a hundred authoritative media including People’s Daily, and seven pieces of poem couplet calligraphy were included in the 2022 CCTV desk calendar. CCTV praised him for "injecting a stream of fresh air and new blood into contemporary Chinese art", which is exactly the contemporary practice of "constantly conversing with the pinnacle of the High Tang Dynasty"—dialoguing with classics through originality and activating tradition with a new paradigm.

1. Vertical dialogue with the classics: He often uses his own original quatrains to "dialogue" with famous poets of the High Tang Dynasty. Huangguoshu Waterfall echoes Li Bai’s Watching the Lushan Waterfall, Ode to West Lake responds to Su Shi’s Drinking by West Lake on a Clear and Rainy Day, and Inscribing a Poem on a Landscape Painting converses with Wang Wei’s Painting. This is not simple imitation, but the realization of spiritual resonance across a thousand years in the same thematic and aesthetic categories from a contemporary perspective and with contemporary emotions, confirming the eternal vitality of classical poetic charm, which is exactly the in-depth continuation of "reading poems to follow Li Bai and Du Fu".

 

2.  内容与形式的内部对话:诗歌的意境、节奏与书法的笔势、章法达成高度默契。其被中国国家博物馆永久收藏的代表作《咏叹汉丰湖》便是典范——“碧浪青山走,银盘上客舟。一湖陈酿液,消尔古今愁”。诗作以“走”字写山水灵动,“银盘”喻湖面澄澈,“陈酿液”化湖光为酒香,意境开阔而情感深沉。对应的书法作品采用疏朗章法,行草笔势流畅自然,“碧浪”二字线条圆转如流水,“古今愁”三字收笔沉凝有力,笔墨的枯湿浓淡与诗意的起承转合完美契合,正是“书宗汉魏,墨涌狂澜”与诗心的交融共生,实现“诗意”与“墨韵”的双重绽放。另一幅《对影亭》:“藕花初绽小溪边,游弋鱼儿穿碧帘。痴客巧裁亭对影,挥毫渲染水中天。”书法则以秀雅灵动的笔调呼应诗中“藕花”“游鱼”的清新意象,笔画纤细处如游鱼穿水,转折处如亭影倒映,将“水中天”的空灵意境通过笔墨形态具象化,尽显“诗书双绝”的内在肌理。

2.  Internal dialogue between content and form: The artistic conception and rhythm of his poetry are in a high degree of harmony with the brush momentum and composition of his calligraphy. His representative work Ode to Hanfeng Lake, which is permanently collected by the National Museum of China, is a perfect example: "Green waves and blue mountains wander; guest boats sail on the silver plate. The lake is like a vat of aged wine, dispelling your sorrows of past and present." The poem uses the word "wander" to depict the vividness of mountains and rivers, "silver plate" to metaphorize the clarity of the lake surface, and "aged wine" to transform the lake scenery into the fragrance of wine, with a broad artistic conception and profound emotion. The corresponding calligraphy work adopts a sparse and open composition, with smooth and natural running-cursive brush strokes. The lines of the two characters "Green Waves" are as round and flowing as running water, and the closing strokes of the three characters "Sorrows of Past and Present" are steady and forceful. The dryness, wetness, thickness and lightness of the ink perfectly match the beginning, development, transition and conclusion of the poetic charm, which is exactly the integration and symbiosis of "modeling calligraphy after the Han and Wei dynasties, with ink surging like turbulent waves" and poetic spirit, realizing the dual blooming of "poetic charm" and "ink rhyme". Another work Pavilion of Mutual Reflection: "Lotus flowers bloom for the first time by the stream; swimming fish dart through the green curtain. An infatuated guest skillfully cuts the pavilion to mirror its reflection; wielding the brush to render the sky in the water." The calligraphy echoes the fresh imagery of "lotus flowers" and "swimming fish" in the poem with an elegant and vivid tone. The thin strokes are like fish darting through water, and the turning strokes are like the pavilion’s reflection in the water, embodying the ethereal artistic conception of "the sky in the water" through the form of brush and ink, fully showing the internal structure of "excellence in both poetry and calligraphy".

 

3.  与时代的横向对话:将传统形式用于书写当代主题,由他作词的《助残之歌》便是核心例证。这首为“中国梦·助残梦”公益巡演创作的主题歌,经著名歌手周舟演唱唱响鸟巢,全球直播传递温暖力量。歌词以“筑梦神舟”为核心,既延续了“以诗言志”的文人传统,又注入当代社会的人文关怀,让古典诗词的韵律与新时代的公益精神相融,实现了艺术的现实功用,为“诗书双绝”赋予了当代使命。

3.  Horizontal dialogue with the times: Applying traditional forms to writing contemporary themes, the Song of Assisting the Disabled with lyrics written by him is a core example. This theme song created for the "Chinese Dream · Dream of Assisting the Disabled" public welfare tour was sung by the famous singer Zhou Zhou at the Bird’s Nest, and the live global broadcast conveyed the power of warmth. With "building dreams on the Shenzhou spaceship" as the core, the lyrics not only inherit the literati tradition of "expressing aspirations through poetry" but also inject the humanistic care of contemporary society, integrating the rhythm of classical poetry with the public welfare spirit of the new era, realizing the practical function of art and endowing "excellence in both poetry and calligraphy" with a contemporary mission.

 

“自书自诗”因此超越个人趣味,成为具有方法论意义的“守正创新”。它守的是文人艺术“诗心墨魂相映发”的正脉,创的是让古老传统在当代社会重新生根结果的新路,恰如民族歌剧《长生殿》的改编理念——坚守文化核心不变,让表现形式随时代主动求变。

Therefore, "writing one’s own poems in one’s own calligraphy" transcends personal taste and becomes a methodologically significant practice of "upholding tradition and innovating". It upholds the orthodox vein of literati art that "poetic spirit and ink soul reflect and inspire each other", and creates a new path for the ancient tradition to take root and bear fruit again in contemporary society, just like the adaptation concept of the national opera The Palace of Eternal Life—upholding the unchanging cultural core and allowing the expression form to actively change with the times.

What makes Tan Zhouwen unique is that he is by no means a studio artist who works behind closed doors, but a "practitioner" who consciously places his artistic achievements in the broad coordinate system of society and civilization for verification and realization. “龙凤呈祥”书法斩获专业大赛金奖,标志艺术水准获业界权威认可;《咏叹汉丰湖》被中国国家博物馆永久收藏,更使其创作从个人作品升华为民族集体文化记忆的重要组成,此外其作品还被周恩来纪念馆、刘伯承纪念馆等多家机构永久收藏,正是“凭栏处,见摩崖刻石,国馆藏篇”的生动注脚,成为时代艺术的重要见证。

His calligraphy work Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity won the gold award in a professional competition, marking the authoritative recognition of his artistic level by the industry. Ode to Hanfeng Lake being permanently collected by the National Museum of China further elevates his creation from a personal work to an important part of the nation’s collective cultural memory. In addition, his works are also permanently collected by many institutions such as the Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall and the Liu Bocheng Memorial Hall. This is exactly a vivid footnote to the line "Leaning on the railing, one sees cliffside inscriptions and works collected in the national museum", becoming an important witness of the art of the times.

数幅诗书大作以大理石碑刻形式,永久镌刻于北京圣莲山老子座像之下,包括“南有武当 北有圣莲”题字、藏头诗五绝“圣境佛光照,莲峰古径幽。山行花解语,美景入吟眸”及“云淡风清天门开 一朵圣莲入梦来”等作品。这一极具象征意义的空间叙事,恰似古代“金石之路”上的文化印记,将当代创作与东方智慧源流的历史文脉相结合,碑刻的金石质感让笔墨精神得以永久留存,使个人艺术融入中华文明的地理肌理与精神谱系,完成从“纸上云烟”到“金石永固”的升华,完美呼应“摩崖刻石”的词作意象。

Several of his major poetry and calligraphy works have been permanently inscribed in the form of marble steles under the statue of Laozi on Shenglian Mountain in Beijing, including the inscription "Wudang in the South, Shenglian in the North", the acrostic five-character quatrain "Sacred realm bathed in Buddha’s light; ancient paths winding around lotus peaks. Walking on the mountain, flowers seem to speak; beautiful scenery enters the poetic eyes", and the line "Clouds are pale and wind is clear, the Heavenly Gate opens; a sacred lotus enters the dream". This highly symbolic spatial narrative is just like the cultural mark on the ancient "gold and stone road", combining contemporary creation with the historical context of the origin and development of Eastern wisdom. The gold-and-stone texture of the steles allows the spirit of brush and ink to be preserved forever, integrating personal art into the geographical texture and spiritual pedigree of Chinese civilization, completing the sublimation from "clouds and mist on paper" to "permanence in gold and stone", and perfectly echoing the ci poem image of "cliffside inscriptions".

 


尤为值得称道的是,承载开州1800年人文积淀与“举子之乡”美誉的国家4A级文化地标——开州举子园,其名称由谭周文先生以笔名野马泼墨拟定,既延续了“公车上书”六举子的文脉荣光,又契合盛山文化兴文重教的精神内核;园区核心标识则由刘伯承元帅次子、中国书法家协会会员刘蒙将军御笔临池挥就,其书作深得启功先生与李真将军指点,兼具传统功力与创新面貌。一文一武的文脉传承与红色基因在此交融,于是有了我创作的灵感源泉“野马命名浓墨染,将军赐玉临池循”之歌词,成为家乡文化建设中“诗书铸魂”的鲜活例证。而我(王本海)有感于此园中文庙的庄严、考院的肃穆、文峰塔的巍峨,特创作歌曲《畅游开州举子园》,以旋律吟唱汉丰湖的灵秀与科举文脉的悠长,让“修身齐家治国平天下”的赤子情怀随歌声流转四方,成为文化传播的又一载体。

What is particularly commendable is that the name of Kaizhou Juziyuan, a national 4A-level cultural landmark that carries 1,800 years of humanistic accumulation of Kaizhou and the reputation of "the hometown of imperial examination candidates", was inscribed by Mr. Tan Zhouwen under his pseudonym Yema (Wild Horse). It not only inherits the cultural glory of the six imperial examination candidates who submitted the "Bus Petition" but also conforms to the spiritual core of Shengshan culture that advocates literature and values education. The core logo of the park was written by General Liu Meng, the second son of Marshal Liu Bocheng and a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, who practiced calligraphy by the pool with his own brush. His calligraphy has benefited greatly from the guidance of Mr. Qi Gong and General Li Zhen, combining traditional skills with an innovative style. The inheritance of cultural context and the red gene, one from a literatus and the other from a military general, merge here. Hence comes the lyric "Wild Horse inscribes the name with thick ink; the general bestows the treasure and practices calligraphy by the pool", which is the source of inspiration for my creation and a vivid example of "forging the soul through poetry and calligraphy" in the cultural construction of my hometown. Inspired by the solemnity of the Confucian Temple, the dignity of the Examination Hall and the grandeur of the Wenfeng Pagoda in this park, I (Wang Benhai) specially created the song Touring Kaizhou Juziyuan, singing the elegance of Hanfeng Lake and the long history of the imperial examination cultural context through melody, allowing the pure feelings of "cultivating oneself, regulating the family, governing the state and pacifying the world" to spread everywhere with the song, becoming another carrier of cultural communication.
